Today it is the seat of the French Embassy, for its shape the Pala cioFarnese was once called “the Farnese dado” and considered one of the four wonders of Rome: the elegant foyer, the refined courtyard, the charming garden, the galleries and the sumptuous richly decorated halls. It was begun in 1517 by Antonio Sangallo the Younger, commissioned by Alessandro Farnese (later Pope Paul III), followed by Michelangelo and Vignola, and finally completed by Giacomo Della Porta in 1589.
